Mike Ierien

The Sheild

Michael Ierien has spent the better part of his 37 years on this hurtling ball of mud in the "great outdoors". Through years of kayaking, camping, smokejumping for the BLM, and of course, cragging, he has gained a love and respect for the wildlife and wildlands this country has to offer.

Alas, it may be his time spent on the stone that you may be interested in the most. He has been pulling on holds, clipping bolts, pounding pins, sleeping on port-a-ledges, cramming his feet into shoes two sizes too small then cramming those into cracks smaller still for 17 years from the Red Rocks of Nevada to Yosemite's granite walls to the gray and orange limestone of Europe.

His main concern is not have fun, suffer, rant and rave at his failures, but instead, his main concern whilst experiencing nature's grandness is to always be safe and return home in one, albeit thrashed (but a good "thrashed"), manner. Believe me, this guy likes to have fun, in fact, many believe that he is the epitome of a "fun hog".

So if it's the steep and hard sport routes you crave; or perhaps it's the experience of climbing miles from anyone in the backcountry that you desire to recharge the mind and soul, well, Mike is the guide for you!
